Capital Project
To our members,
We are reaching out to share with you the most recent information regarding the City of Toronto State of Good Repair project that will be happening in our club this year.
We are delighted to share that the project scope has been confirmed, resulting in an investment of over $4 million into the facility. The city has been through their tender process and has chosen a contractor. The board and club management have good relationships with the Project Lead at the city, and we have been communicating with the various partners helping the city through the project to this point.
It’s important to note that this project won’t only drastically improve our ice shed, it will also include material improvements to every part of our facility. We will have a new concrete pad in the ice shed and new plant equipment, but also a new, more accessible facility with new ceilings, new flooring, and other finish upgrades. The board is in the process of confirming the specific details for all the facility upgrades, and we aim to share that with you this month. This is a project that will set up our club for success for decades to come.
A critical step was completed late last week when the City of Toronto shared an initial timeline for the project:
- Tender Closing Date - February 24th 2026
- Anticipated date of contract award - Early June 2026
- Anticipated date of construction start - Summer 2026
- Anticipated date of return to curling - January 2027
To be clear: this is an initial timeline, shared with us before an actual construction schedule has been created or shared. This timeline will change, and we share it here as part of our commitment to complete transparency.
We have made it clear to the City of Toronto that any shortening of our 2026/27 season will have a significant impact on our membership, and they have heard our concerns. We remain realistic about how construction projects of this size typically operate, but optimistic that the project can be completed in a timeline that can minimize disruption for our members.
We expect to get a more definitive timeline when the construction schedule is finalized, and we will share it with you as soon as we receive it. The board is also working through various financial models to ensure that we can plan for various outcomes.
Our banquets, AGMs, and book sale will all be hosted in our lounge as usual. The timing for those will be announced in the coming weeks.
The EYCC Board is committed to regular communication with you regarding this project. We will continue to include details in our monthly newsletter but will also provide updates via email and our website when material progress is made.
Our members deserve to be fully informed regarding a project of this significance, so we will make every effort to let you know what is happening, every step of the way.
Representatives from the board will be making short presentations at every draw this week, so please reach out with any questions or concerns you have.
We are very excited about the benefits that this project will bring to our club, and we will continue working hard to best further the interests of our membership as the project progresses.
Yours,
East York Curling Club Board
